Have you ever had one of those weeks where you’re sprinting from one obligation to the next, barely catching your breath? When your home feels like chaos, your goals are a distant memory, and you’re running on fumes? That’s exactly the kind of week I’ve been having—and it’s time for a reset.
So, is there good news in all this? Yes – I just want you to know that I learned a lot. I know what to do when everything feels out of control. I use the strategies to reclaim my energy. Here’s what my routine looks like:
Get Enough Sleep
When I am feeling out of control, the first thing I do is work on getting enough sleep. If I am tired, everything feels more difficult. I don’t have much patience, I can’t focus, and my body feels sluggish.
As soon as I know why that I am feeling out of control, I work on sleeping enough. I need at least 7 hours of sleep. Any less and I will just feel awful. Everything is easier when I have enough energy!
Say No to Clutter
Visual chaos contributes to mental chaos. Right now, my clothes are scattered across the bedroom, makeup is strewn across the bathroom counter, and the dishes have piled up in the sink. The house doesn’t feel peaceful—it feels overwhelming. Taking time to clean and organize helps me breathe easier and feel like I’m back in charge of my space.
Reconnect With Goals
When life gets hectic, my goals can get pushed aside in the name of survival mode. But staying connected to what matters most is key to feeling purposeful. I’ll pull up the document where I track my goals and ask myself: Am I on track? What’s slipped? Then I’ll map out a few small, manageable action steps to realign with my vision.
Journal It Out
Writing in my journal always brings me clarity. Whether I free-write about what’s been on my mind or complete a specific journaling exercise, I come out feeling grounded and less reactive. It’s a chance to process what I’ve been feeling and reconnect with myself in a deeper way.
Move Your Body
Exercise is usually the first thing to fall off my list when I get busy. But I know that getting in a long, satisfying workout—whether it’s a dance class, a brisk walk, or a strength session—will reset my nervous system and energize me. Movement is medicine, and I need a dose.
Clear Your Schedule
In order to get through this reset routine, I’ll need to carve out intentional time—possibly a full day or two—to focus on myself. That means saying no, turning off notifications, and letting the rest of the world wait. It’s not selfish—it’s necessary.
Once I’ve tackled these five areas, I always feel like I’ve come home to myself. My house feels clear, my body feels stronger, and my mind is focused again. Life may not slow down, but when I take time to reset, I’m ready to face it all with calm and clarity.
